@Iguanaman Man kann das „es“ zwar weglassen, aber es ändert die Bedeutung ein wenig. Das es bezieht sich auf eine Handlung. Der Satz legt die Betonung auf die Handlung, die nachgemacht wird. Wenn du das es weglässt, bedeutet das eher, dass man Mary als ganze Person nachmacht, so sein will wie sie.

Klar, gerne. Also, wenn sich meine Freundin einen schönen, neuen Mantel gekauft hat und ich dann auch einen neuen Mantel kaufe, mache ich ES nach. Das ES ist in dem Fall der Mantelkauf. Ich mache es der Freundin nach.
Wenn ich aber meine Freundin als Ganzes super finde und sie so bewundere, dass ich am liebsten so sein will wie sie, dann sagt man: Ich mache die Freundin nach.
