Question about Portuguese (Brazil)

I'm getting confused with verbs and all the many different tenses, perfects, imperfects etc. And then there is also some verbs with "-se" like encontrar-se, so does that mean encontrar without the "-se" is wrong?

(The question above maybe for those more advanced I guess, but I am just self studying and really didn't know how to approach studying a language. I am doing it for free or minimum spending and so I am assuming they teach this in classes which I can't afford or as said earlier 'minimum spending'. As a non-Portuguese speaker you can assume it's overwhelming)

What tips can you give me? Should I learn every verb present, past, future and then worry about the others later? What approach should I take with everything? Maybe your opinion may be to not focus on verbs etc. Please comment and let me know your thoughts

Thank you
