It's a shame that a politician had such a racist behaviour and I apologise for that. Indeed, it's true that racism is still a huge issue nowadays and racism against East Asian people is worse because people don't seem to acknowledge it (for example, people will react if a Black or an Arab in France is victim of racism, and that's amazing that people will defend these victims, but when it comes to a Japanese person, less people will react, I don't know why, and that's really sad...). Hopefully, more people are getting aware of racism against East Asian people, I hope it will get better in the future. Once again, I am really sorry for my people's behaviour, and I am sorry that you had to go through racism during your trip, it must have been awful.

@falcon2020 Yes, you're right, here people tend to use the freedom of speech as a way to legitimate their racist words. I am myself French Arab (and muslim) so I've already faced that (a guy told me to "go back to my country". That's funny cause France is the country I belong to). Hopefully 99% of the time people I know aren't racist, but it's mostly on Internet that I see tensions between people from different ethnicities.

I genuinely love France, and I just wanted to see other countries' perception of my country, I didn't know it would be a sensitive topic.

@undertherainjp People are getting more aware of this issue. I think it's because East Asian people in France are a respectful and discreet community. They don't bother anyone so I think it's the reason why some people think they have the right to bother them. Most people in France aren't racist, it's just that racist ignorants are the loudest. In fact, many people in France are fascinated by East Asian cultures. More people get interested in Japanese culture, Korean culture and Chinese culture. A lot of French people admire East Asia.
