Borne is correct. This word is almost never used in speech, you’ll only see it in writing
- Portuguese (Brazil)
@WikiWeaponn what about “bore”? Is it used in speech?
- English (US)
@ThiagoChaves not in the context you are asking. We would only use that like if we are referring to being boring.
Example: “You’re such a bore” - you’re boring
- Portuguese (Brazil)
@WikiWeaponn but is “bore” not the past simple of “bear”?
- English (US)
@ThiagoChaves also, bore can mean to drill into something so you might use it in the mining or construction industry
- English (US)
@ThiagoChaves yes, I suppose that would be the correct last tense. It it just not used in speech really
- English (US)
It’s sort of a fancy or poetic word so we don’t really use it.
However, there is a common expression “This is my cross to bear” which is used in speech. Basically it means that something is your responsibility
- Portuguese (Brazil)
- English (US)
@ThiagoChaves not quite. Using “my cross to bear” implies that what you have to do is either difficult or something you don’t want to do but are forced into.
