Question about Japanese
Are 田んぼ only used for planting grains?
This is my understanding, please help to verify.
田んぼ - grain/rice field, conversational
水田 - grain/rice field, academic/writing
畑 - field for crops other than grain (rice, wheat, etc.)
And there seems to be 2 pronunciations for 牧場, ぼくじょう and まきば, which is more common or are they both used?

Partly yes, 田んぼ is a spoken word and, as a written word 水田 seems more natural. We use them mainly for rice fields, but not for other grain such as wheat and corn. According to my dictionary, 田んぼ and 水田 are "flooded" fields used for growing plants like rice, wasabi, and lotus(lotus roots are common in Japan and called "renkon"). But, I think 田んぼ and 水田 almost always refer to rice fields.
And, ぼくじょう is more common. まきば sounds like a written word which appears in poetry or lyrics.
