I heard that 义兄 is often used to imply a gay relationship without outright saying it in a piece of media.
Is this true? If so is that its most common use or are there other translations used more in day to day life.

It should be saying that "we are brothers even though we are not really related"...we don't really see that word in social media now so I'm not sure if that has a meaning of gay relationship. People using internet often use words related to purple to describe gay relationship though!
