yes, we use this word 「一応」(いちおう)a lot.
for us it's very convenient word, but it's very hard to translate to english.
it has various meaning, but actually if it is omitted , the meaning of the sentence doesn't change so much .
一応in your sentence is similar to 「一通り」(ひととおり)。
■〔一応,だいたい〕一通りの■ =「general」
・彼女は一通り作法の心得がある
She has a general knowledge of etiquette.
・その論文に一通り目を通した
I have 「looked over [glanced over/glanced through] the essay.
・彼は英語が一通り出来る
He has a working [functional] knowledge of English./His English is passable [good enough to get by on].
・この町は一通り見物した
I have seen the main sights of this town.
