Question about English (US)

What does "collect my debt" mean?

I have seen a sentence that said, "Tell her that I have come to collect my debt." This sentence is said by the creditor. But I have also seen a sentence that said, "They came to collect my debt." This sentence is said by the debtor. Doesn't the word "debt" mean "the borrowed money"? Then why is the first sentence not "Tell her that I have come to collect YOUR debt"?
