@DefenestrationSenpai Its quite confusing, “Para” can express the end of an action:
“Necesito este cuchillo para cortar estas zanahorias” i need this knife to cut some carrots.
“Necesito crema batida para poder terminar el pastel” I need whopping cream to finish this cake.
“Por” can be the causation like @Jeremy_Jack_ mentioned..
we use “por” for the following cases:
•to indicate a reason,causes.
ex.
“he llegado tarde por el trafico”
-I got late because of traffic.
“le castigaron por no hacer los deberes.”
-He/She got grounded because she/he didn’t finish his/her responsibilities.
Use of “Para”: to indicate movement or action..(time,Address, even for opinion)
time: “El trabajo tiene que estar terminado para mañana”
Address: Este regalo es para ti”
(this is when you address something to someone)
Opinion: “Para mi este tema es muy difícil.”
I hope this helps a bit since these two are pretty extended.
