You have to add ihm in the first sentence: Ihm in die Augen sehend sagte ich ihm die Wahrheit.
Mich anziehend sprach ich mit meinem Freund 👍🏻
These sentences are ok for learning participles. But it sounds unnatural. We wouldn’t use participles that much.
