He said he has a test tomorrow .
Tomorrow didn't come yet so you have to write in the present but if you just say :
he said he had a test.
it works fine

But when we report a sentence we have to change the simple present to simple past, right?

@Brunomg Correto! Na verdade as duas formas estão meio que corretas porém se você observar nos exemplos do livro , ao fazer um discurso indireto você conta as coisas na suas palavras e por isso , muda a forma como é dito ...
Olha o primeiro exemplo:
direto
He said, "I have a test today"
indireto
he said (that) he had a test That Day.
Nessa frase você apenas copiou o que ele disse , você fez o discurso indireto até a palavra Test mas copiou o Tomorrow ... Por isso, o correto e mais natural seria fazer o discurso direto !

Mas eu imaginei que eu podia manter o tomorrow mesmo mudando o tempo verbal. Por exemplo imaginando que eu reporto a mensagem no mesmo dia em que ela é dita posso manter o tomorrow já que a referência do dia seguinte é a mesma para quem disse a frase e para quem reportou a frase.

Nessa frase não está errado copiar as palavras dele mesmo num discurso indireto porque o teste não aconteceu ainda ,
você poderia fazer um discurso indireto com o had senão tivesse o tomorrow ali

@Brunomg Isso é comum no português mas não no inglês ... A lógica é que se você tinha , não tem mais portanto não tem um tomorrow onde não se tem mais nada, pode acontecer mas não é comum lolol

@Brunomg Como te disse as duas formas estão meio que certas. Um inglês escrito é diferente do falado ... Se você escrever Pra numa redação , provavelmente terá desconto de pontos , mas no falado não ! Entenderíamos muito bem sua frase e é algo que acontece no inglês apesar de não ser o correto

Num discurso indireto você não necessariamente tem que tornar a frase no passado só porque foi dita , pode fazer como preferir !

Eu tenho um teste amanhã
Ele disse que tinha um teste amanhã
ou
Ele disse que tem um teste amanhã
As duas são a mesma coisa e Ele Disse traz a conotação de um discurso indireto
