Question about English (UK)

Is 'Drove out' used to mean 2 in the text below?

The president's car drove out and turned left into Democracy street.

Used other than figuratively or idiomatically
At short, drove out means drive.

I thought the sentence didn't make sense because there was no object if it meant 1.
