Question about English (US)
“We have dinner reservations.”
I heard this line in a series and thought “Okay, so, they are going to have dinner at multiple restaurants?” But actually they only went to one restaurant and had dinner there.
Why did he say “reservations”, in plural?

This is just something English speakers do, which we can't really explain. "I have a dinner reservation" is the same meaning as "I have dinner reservations"

While saying “we have a dinner reservation” would be more correct as it is 1 reservation for the whole party, technically the sentence you provided is also correct as each person in the party has a reservation.
In short, I have a reserved spot at the restaurant, and you do too. Therefore, multiple reservations even though we’re sitting at the same table. Hope this helps clear the confusion!
