Question about English (US)

Do i understand the difference of these correctly:

to ban - we ban SOMETHING

to forbid - anyone can do it. and it is used with "to" most of time as: "forbid someone to do something"

to prohibit - we use it commonly with the preposition "from". it is used when it is forbidden BY LAW.

(But i dobt know what to say about "to prevent" in this case. Could you help please?)
