Yes, it is correct if you are ASKING someone for a response.

@ladybug How could there be any implication to the contrary in the initial question? Claudia didn't ask whether the expression "to solicit a question" were correct, but rather gave the phrase in its quintessential lexical formulation, "solicit a response". It's odd that you would raise an objection non sequitur, and risk confusing the learner.

@XtraFancy Learners, as well as native English speakers, often confuse “solicit” and “elicit”. As no context was provided, I wanted to clarify that “solicit” is being used properly.

@ladybug Quite true! However in this case Claudia was clearly referring to a previously-seen lexical construction which she reproduced verbatim in quotes, rather than a phrase she self-constructed, and was merely asking if the construction were accurate, or more to the point, representative of L1 lexis.

@XtraFancy I have many shortcomings, and one of them is that my powers of inference don’t measure up to yours. I have never disagreed with your original answer, but you seem unhappy with my response. How can I make it up to you?

@ladybug Quite on the contrary, your answers are always exemplary, and I'm not at all unhappy with your response, merely puzzled. No amends are necessary or appreciated. I've actually only disagreed with you once, in a previous thread in which you described "gonna" as grammatically incorrect and therefore proscribed for usage. I disagree vociferously lol. Cheers!
