The present perfect simple usually focuses on the result of the activity in some way. Examples: 1) I have read two books since morning. (Focuses on completion. I'm finished reading those 2 books.) 2) I have washed the car. (Result: The car is clean now.)
The present perfect continuous usually focuses on the activity itself in some way and is used to talk about a continuous, but not necessarily finished action or situation. It's about more temporary actions and situations. Example: I have been gardening since morning. (Focuses on continuity) 2) I am taking an English course this semester.
