Question about English (US)

is it foolish or unwise to pronounce "a cup of tea" like /ə cʌpə tiː/ ?

I saw a old man in a movie insisting on pronouncing "of" properly when he talked to a young woman pronouncing it like /ə/. I don't remember its name well, sorry.
in the US today, what kind of feeling does /ə cʌpə tiː/ cause ? not-well-educated? friendly? or others? could you tell me, thank you.
