This was a description in a book when someone wakes up. Does this mean "eyes blink and then open"?

Its when you scrunch your eyes before you open them usually after being asleep for a long time, also if you blink a lot when you open them.

It's a phrase which I would expect to find in literature. It describes that someone's eyes open as quickly and suddenly as a blink. In my view, the "blink" is not a separate action, but it's the manner in which the eye opens. :-)
