there’s not a big difference. an example for both of the words are
“I understand how to play basketball”
“I figured out how to play basketball”
Understand meaning that you already know, and figured out meaning that you just recently learned

having an understanding of something means you comprehend the topic. To fully understand you must be able to teach what you learned to someone else.
"I understand some French during a conversation."
"I understand everything in my physics class, I can help tutor someone."
Figuring out means researching to understand something else or come to a conclusion or solution to a problem
"I need to figure out my finances"

@stanskzstantalent Many thanks!! It’s because I often hear « figure out » from English native speakers so I thought is was more common and natural to use it.

@abens it is pretty natural to use it just depends on how you talk and the way you use your words to get your thoughts across to someone else
