But clearly the writer is giving up something here, possibly she is in love with the man? So she says that she is doing this for a friend, that she is being generous but also she is self denying. This means that she is denying herself something by doing this, probably a love she wanted. She then says this was a black mornings work. Black meaning sad or dark, something difficult for her to do. To sum up the writer is helping two people to get together, she is being generous in doing this, she is self sacrificing and she is doing this out if friendship. But it is at a cost to her, soo it saddens her to do it.
