Question about English (US)

It's a well-known fact that, to build riverbanks, firm, sticky, clayish earth has to be used. However, it turned out that, the part of the embankment that collapsed in yesterday's flood was made of light, sandy earth, and was extremely susceptible to erosion. In addition, although there was enough height, the depth was also insufficient at the overflown part. does this sound natural?
