Question about English (US)
I'm racking my brains to understand why something is wrong or not, given these three sentences below.
1. I feel sad for his death.
2. I feel sad for what they did to you.
3. I feel sad for your loss.
I've asked native speakers to simply get answers on whether they're correct or not.
The results are that most of them agree that 1 is wrong while 2 and 3 are correct, but I have no idea why.
Could you explain why?

I actually think that you should put “I am sorry” instead of “I feel sad” because it is more appropriate (seems more sincere and mature) for these situations. “sorry” in this situation means “feeling sad or distressed through sympathy with someone else's misfortune”

These sentences are grammatically correct. However, sometimes, other words are more common than others. For instance, you said “I feel sad for your loss”. This is correct, but most native speakers would say “I feel SORRY for your loss”.

Yeah, I actually heard that "I'm sorry" is more natural. But I'm more curious about why only 1 is wrong while the rest are correct.

Yeah, but more importantly, why is only 1 wrong while 2 and 3 are correct? Some of them said that 1 doesn't make any sense.

@leopard10 I’m not sure why others would say that, I don’t see it that way. Would you mind maybe telling us what they said so we can better understand?

Most of them just said that 1 is correct, but 2 and 3 are wrong.
I don't know why, but they said that 1 doesn't make any sense and 1 should be "I feel sad about his death", but why is it applied only to 1? This is what makes me curious.

@leopard10 I’m really not sure. I think you should probably ask those people who said that if they can answer your question. It’s their opinion after all. I’m sorry I couldn’t help!
