He was climbing, but then he fell! Luckily, he was able to grasp a rock and catch his fall. He then proceeded to continue climbing.

@HDGD Proceeded = to start doing something. He began to climb. Kept = to continue doing something.
You could also say "He then proceeded to keep climbing"

@Andalitebandit_6 look actually for me as far as I know proceed is to continue doing something that u were already doing and keep in this context means the same to continue.. are u sure ur right?
