But, flight also means the act of fleeing (to flee means to run away from something to escape danger).

The flight of a million internally displaced people might mean, for example, that a million people ran away or escaped the country because something happened internally (in the country) to displace them (take away their home).

For example. An earthquake happened and millions of people lost their home and had to go live somewhere else outside the area that was destroyed.
