"it's getting cold" implies that it's JUST STARTING to become cold and "it's getting colder" means that it was already cold in the first place but it's GETTING EVEN COLDER

"It's getting cold" means it's the beginning of the sensation or it's just starting to feel that way. While "It's getting colder." it means that the present sensation is already cold it's just a little extreme than the current situation. Hope it helps!
