Sometimes, but it depends where you go. The US is a very diverse country, and there are many non-native speakers. There is also an abundance of Spanish speaking communities, who will undoubtedly understand. Most native English speakers will try to understand, and if they don’t, they can direct you to someone who will understand. Chances are, you won’t have trouble in the US. I wouldn’t worry about it.

@HDGD In the US, people will say that some Appalachian accents are hard to understand if they're unfamiliar with that region.

@Ellie_2 I'm not talking about that.. in fact I get mad when I speak in English and they bring someone in Spanish even tho they understand me because they tell the other guy what I just said why people do that they know that there's people trying their best to speak in English and they think they're doing us a favor by bringing someone in Spanish OR talking in Spanish.. that's not cool...
but anyway I meant if Americans can understand the accent from other countries like Ireland or England the thick accents

Depends. Some accents aren't that hard to understand while others like Scottish are famously hard to understand.

@HDGD It just depends on familiarity. I personally don't have any problems understanding thick Irish and UK accents, but a lot of people in the US do.

@HDGD I’m so sorry! I personally never did that, but I assumed it would be helpful... Now I see that it’s not... Sorry!
To answer your question, I looked up those accents, and yeah I had a hard time understanding. I knew what people were saying with England accents, but it was a little more difficult with an Irish accent.
I’m so sorry about the misunderstanding earlier!

@HDGD I could understand everything they said, except for one of the scenes. I think it was just a curse word though. I understood them.
