Usually you would say "asserting his dominion over" something (like over his family or over his kingdom). But if you are making a summary statement in "Q." and asking if it sounds natural, (which I think is what you are asking) I would add to it so it reads: "Asserting his dominion over the princess gave More Martell the power to rule the kingdom" (or to rule the land).
