1. Without having more of the text to gain a better understanding of what they are meaning, I would eliminate the phrase "as such"; it is unnecessary and confuses the meaning of the sentence.
2. This is where some of the confusion comes in. I am not quite sure what they are saying. However, it makes sense when you remove "as such".
