@dina_992 That was not a simple greeting but an expression of admiration, almost worship. You might hear songs that hail God, but saying it to a person is a sign of an authoritarian regime.

"Hail to the Chief" is a song associated with the US President, but it is from an older time and people do not really say "hail" to the President anymore. "Hail to the Bus Driver" is a children's song where they sarcastically praise the driver of their school bus, but also include several insults about him (like "he spits and he cusses, he stinks up the buses.")
