I don't see a reason you couldn't except it would not be the best, most specific, answer. Were the instructions to choose the best answer perhaps?

If you had to read a text and then answer these questions, then it probably came from there. (E) also sounds correct but (B) makes more sense. For (B) the “which” is describing the whole event of the stocks crashing. For (E) “which meant” is describing the result of the crashing...which I suppose makes sense but the sentence isn’t the main result of the sentence

@ranayilmaz Honestly I think both (B) and (E) could be correct. It’s just that (B) shows a more specific result which is what I think they want. It’s a bit confusing
