I know him. You have spoken to the person and have spent time with them, so you know them
= Aiko and I know each other. We were in the same class and did homework together.
I know about him: I know about Yuki Furukawa from watching YouTube videos. I never met him but I think he's a good actor.

I know him = I've had conversations with him, I eat lunch with him sometimes, we work together every day, etc.
I know about him = I've heard people talk about him, I've read about him and things he has done, I know who he is, etc.
"I know him" can also mean "I know about him" or "I recognize him."
