Question about English (US)
(This is a part of my senior thesis I'm writing now.
I would appreciate if you find something awkward or grammatically incorrect and correct it to make it sound natural)
(Please let me know if you find parts which don't make sense)
Baugh (1983) claims that social factors attributed to the multiple negation and it tends to be used in formal situations. However, Kobayashi (1994) is opposed to the idea and states that the multiple negation in AAVE normally has one negation factor in a sentence virtually, which means each negation factor does not offset the others. On the other hand, Labov (1972) claims that negation factor can be added or omitted in the multiple negation sentence of AAVE and it can have multiple negation factors as Standard English can.
