They are latin abbreviations.
I can’t think of very natural examples for you, but...
e.g. means “for example”
“I want a sweet dessert (e.g. cake, cookies, pie, ice cream).”
i.e. means “in other words”
“We are fighting right now (i.e. she upset me and we are not speaking).”
These are not used often in speech, but in formal writing (e.g. articles, college papers, business emails).
It’s a little unnatural for me to even use it here. :)
When texting or speaking examples you would say “like” or “such as” instead.
“I want a sweet dessert, like cake, cookies, pie, or ice cream.”
When rephrasing your words, you would just leave out i.e.
“We are fighting right now. She upset me and we are not speaking.”
