“I would rather take the bus than walk home” is correct, as are the other suggestions that use the same verb form, good suggestions on those.
No native speaker EVER says I would rather taking the bus. Don’t try saying it in that way.
If you choose to use the “ing” you must add be. I would rather be taking the bus than be walking home. This puts it in present perfect tense, and implies that the speaker is currently walking or currently walks on a continuous basis.
Here is an unusual pairing: “I would rather that she takes the bus home than be walking.”
Even this, though it sounds unusual, and if it fits a very specific scenario, can be correct, if she is currently walking, or that her walking is currently ongoing. That’s a tricky one!
