“Try to do it.” is perfect grammar!

“Try doing it” is also good!

The word ‘doing’ (do -ing) could either be used to describe or ask an action, or it could be used to make sentences flow much smoother. In English, saying “try to do it” is choppy and English speakers would rather say “try doing it” since it is much simpler to say when having a conversation.

“Try doing it” is lazy English!
While “try to do it” is more proper.

Also, when asking someone their current action, you would say: “what are you doing?”
