to is a gift
for is instead of

I gave the book to her.
I delivered the book for my friend.

las palabras tienen una multitud de usos pero los mas frecuentes son:

“to” indica que la palabra que viene después es la destinación del objeto o persona, como “we are going to the store” or “this train is going to New York”
“for” está usado para indicar la razón de obtener algo, como “this is for my friend” or “my jacket is for wearing in the cold.”

“To” is used in many ways:

I go to the theater. (preposition for destination, voy *al cine)

I want to swim. (infinitive verb, nada*r)

I gave a sandwich to my neighbor. (indirect object, le di algo *a alguien)
I came here to help you (vine *para ayudarte).

“For” says who benefits:

I bought this sandwich for my neighbor. I came here for you. I came here for your benefit.

... or showing an exchange:

I gave him one dollar for the sandwich.

Envío el paquete *a ti (to you)

And

Envió el paquete *por ti (for you)

... pero verdad que me dificulta generalizar
