Nope, I’m sure there’s some deep metaphor here, but looking at it literally they are incomparable. A hundred miles is how far the tournaments for my sport are from me, in a hundred years I’ll be dead. Are you sure the expression isn’t “In the U.S, 100 years is a long time. In the U.K, 100 miles is a long way.” Referring to the value each places on distance or time
