So skipping and jumping mean the same thing when you talk about the sport, saltar la cuerda. But for movement, skipping is a kind of light, happy run, whereas jumping is not usually used to get from one place to another, like the verb brincar

@Anth22 well "skip" also has the meaning of intentionally missing something, like faltar a (una clase etc), so you also need to add something directional to show you're talking about movement here. In the first example you said "skipped ... down" but you can also use along, over, by etc..
So for your sentence you could say "skip down/along the air-strip"
We also usually say in English "into the sunset," probably because if you say "to" it means you can arrive at the sunset, which isn't strictly true
So: "skip down the air-strip into the sunset" is probably best. Hope this helps!
