he is in prison = he got arrested and is now in jail
he is in the prison = he got arrested in one specific prsion you are talking about
he is at the prison = he's just at the prison, he could be a police, as it is not stated that he's the one who got arrested

@Savva_Peck no, the person is in jail too, but " the prison" refers to the prison you're talking about (the context is the specific jail)

@bibbimbap so it means that if I want to say that someone works as a guard I need to use "at" and not "In"
