This is a sentence from a medical paper. Can we understand that the expression "women-days" means menstrual period?
>Our study of early pregnancy was conducted among 221 healthy women (ages 21-42 years, mean 30) who were planning to conceive and who had no history of fertility problems. These women were enrolled at the time they stopped using any form of birth control. Women participated for up to 6 months if they did not become pregnant, and for 8 weeks beyond their last menstrual period (LMP) if they became clinically pregnant. During this time, women collected daily first-morning urine specimens, which were frozen and stored for later analysis. Urine collection was complete for 98% of *****women-days***** in the study. Women were also asked to record each morning whether or not they had had intercourse in the previous 24 h (without exact time). For analysis, we assumed each intercourse had occurred on the preceding day.

This is what I believe it means:
To make the math easy, let's say there were ten women and the study was ten days long. That makes a total of 100 women-days in the study. 10 women x 10 days. If one woman missed urine collection two times, that's two women-days lost. That would mean collection was complete for 98% (100 minus the 2 days lost).
They have to say women-days because it's not the same as saying 98% of the days (it wasn't 98% of ten days, it was 98% of the 100 possible daily collections).
It's just like the common term "man-hours." If it took two men three hours to build something, it took six man-hours to build it.

No, "women-days" does not mean menstrual period. My best guess is that the hyphen is being used like a slash /. That would mean that it is saying "Urine collection was complete for 98% of both women and days in the study." Tbh, I can hardly make sense of it but it definitely isn't a medical term or anything.

This is what I believe it means:

If one woman missed urine collection two times, that's two women-days lost. That would mean collection was complete for 98% (100 minus the 2 days lost).
They have to say women-days because it's not the same as saying 98% of the days (it wasn't 98% of ten days, it was 98% of the 100 possible daily collections).
It's just like the common term "man-hours." If it took two men three hours to build something, it took six man-hours to build it.
