No difference.

I want to talk to you regarding John.
But 'regarding ' can put at beginning of sentence, but not 'about'.

"About" is less formal and has more uses. 例えば
He is about 1.8m tall. ( " regarding " cannot be used here )

@REN_MASASHI Yes. 'Regarding' sounds more formal. However, even if you use 'about', it is ok since there is not much distinction between formal and informal words in English, unlike Japanese (in my humble opinion).

"About" is more like "approximately this," while "regarding" is like "specifically this". "About" can be more BROAD/GENERAL, while "regarding" is more TARGETED/PARTICULAR/DEFINED. Hoping this helps! :)
