Lesbian can be an adjective, in which case you would not use 'a'.
It can also be a noun, in which case 'a' would be used.
So either is correct.

2. you usually don't include articles before descriptions such as that. sometimes it's optional sometimes you just don't.

@Orrin_A It could be either or, no? Take this headline for example: "Late Ebony wasn't a lesbian." Ebony Reigns was described as "a lesbian". Like the other comment said.
