The song example offered above is misleading as it features an ellipsis: "because she was too beautiful to live" [lit. 'because one cannot be so beautiful in this world] is sun as a refrain reminding us of the fate of the girl that the song is about, a girl who used to excite passion in many men and freely flirted and had relationships until she was ultimately killed by a jealous lover. The full sentence would be "she was killed because she was too beautiful to live". You cannot start a standalone sentence with потому что, indeed. Use так как or поскольку instead.

Yes, you can. There's a famous Russian song (don't know why it came to my mind :D) which chorus has the following words:"Потому что нельзя быть на свете красивой такой". and it's repeated over and over again.
