@AnalyticalEnglish Z1 is awkward and kinda runs on. Instead, you should say “When learning a language, it is necessary to make sentences, ask questions, and learn grammar to be good at the lanaguge.” Use commas when listing things. Z2 is correct.

But in respect to the sentence structure, I used "to ask questions" to belong to "to make sentences", and used "to learn grammar" to belong to "to ask questions".
Do you understand what I'm saying??
If so, could you tell me whether it is possible to use an infinitive to belong to another infinitive like in Z1?

@AnalyticalEnglish Oh ok, I think I understand what you’re saying and trying to do. Z1 is incorrect because it runs on for too long. I would only use 2 infinitives in a sentence, just like in Z2, or else the sentence sounds awkward and isn’t likely to be understood well. So to answer your question, no you shouldn’t add multiple infinitives onto each other.

@AnalyticalEnglish I wouldn’t say that either. Adding too many infinitives sounds repetitive, very awkward, and like I said earlier, an english speaker may not understand what you’re trying to say. Even if they did understand, it still sounds wrong. Instead, say “It is necessary to make sentences so that you can ask questions in order to learn grammar.” This is much more natural, clear, and will be understood easily.

@AnalyticalEnglish Using 3 or more infinitives on top of each other is incorrect. It is not clear and it’s hard to understand. Instead, try to break the sentence down into smaller parts instead of trying to fit everything in one sentence.

@AnalyticalEnglish No problem! I hope I was able to help, it’s hard to explain. Yes it only works in theory, it doesn’t make sense in everyday conversation or writing. So I would avoid using too many infinitives.

Yes, the phrase “to play games at night” belongs to “to go to sleep late”. Even though this sentence is correct, the meaning can be just a little unclear. R1 “Going to sleep late to play games at night is not good for your health.”
R2 “Going to sleep late so that you can play games at night is not good for your health.”
