It's acceptable to use "and" in certain situations.
If you want to give your opinion, and underline the fact that your opinion is based on experience, you can use "and".
Example conversation:
A) You don't seem to have read enough horror novels to really appreciate how deep they can be. I recommend The Shining.
B) Dude. I read that book, and it was not interesting. (読んでるし、読んでみたら面白くなかったよ)
