You sometimes call one person by the last name, or assign a nickname. Sometimes you use the first letter of the last name for both: Matt D. and Matt M.

We usually give one of them a nicname or a middle name. In school we usually call them by their name an their initial like Oliva B and Olivia O just like @arcanetrash said

@Niuu2 Nicnames dont necessarily need to relate to someones name, I had a friend who everyone called Polly despite her name being Gwendolyn.
