WAIT is a verb and a noun.
-to stay in a place until an expected event happens.
example:
โWe wait for the train to come.โ ๐
Or:
โI hate to wait in long lines.โ
And:
โI waited for my friend to arrive.โ
it is often followed by โtoโโ and a verb.
Like this:
โIโm waiting to see the doctor.โ ๐จ๐ฟโโ๏ธ
As a noun, wait means the act of waiting.
โAfter a short wait, I saw my doctor.โ
AWAIT
First, there is no noun form.
Await is used only as a verb and requires an object.
It is often used in more formal or serious writing and speaking.
It takes the place of โto wait for.โ
For example, you can say, โWe await your answers to these questions,โ instead of โWe wait for your answers to these questions.โ
It is used when you are waiting for something expected but not immediately.
For example:
โThe couple await the birth of their first child.โ ๐คฐ๐ป๐๐ปโโ๏ธโณ
Or:
โThe suspect is in jail awaiting trial.โ ๐๐ฝ๐ฉ๐ฝโโ๏ธ
