Question about English (US)

I have a question to English native speakers.

When I introduce a person to other people, if I say “he/she is my friend.” , it sounds a little bit strange, because it implies “I have only one friend in this world and he/she is the friend.” In stead, we have to say “This is one of my friends.”, I was taught in this way.

Grammatically and exactly speaking, it might be correct. But, as English native speaker, in your daily conversation, don’t you really use this kind of expression “This is my friend.”?
