utile is usefull, that is you have an advantage in using it, comodo is confortable to use, that is you can use it at your ease or without problems
For example "il denaro è utile" means you can do a lot of things with it, "il denaro è comodo" means it's easy to take with you (let's say easier than a bagful of salt or gold) and it's confortable to use, because everyone recognize its value.

They are two different things, they are correlated, though.
"Utile" means useful, in german nützlich, "comodo" means comfortable, in german bequem/ komfortabel.
Actually they occur together sometimes.
For example, "imparare una lingua è utile" and is also "comodo" in the sense of convenient.
But let's say that "comodo" may have different meanings according to the context:
Il divano/la sedia sono comodi
(The sofà/chair are comfortable)
Un vestito (a dress) è comodo
Andare a lavoro in macchina (to go to work by auto) è comodo (convenient) but not useful, do you follow me?
It's not something that may be useful to you in doing something but just something that makes your life easier.
Hope it was clear :)
