Question about China
How do Chinese people feel about it? Do you think that Taiwan should be able to compete in the Olympics under its own country name and flag? Or do you think it wouldn't be fair?

Only people in China in the world are called Chinese.
It's called Chinese Taipei. I have no objection. If it's only called Taipei, it's very hateful

Our country wouldn’t want that happen. (That means Taiwan can be able to compete in the Olympics using its own country name and flag.)

Taiwan is a part of China. I support them to participate in the Olympic Games, but it is a bit weird to form a team alone. It's like having a Japanese team but another Okinawa team.

Their official country name is "Republic of China" and the territory according to their constitution and laws includes the mainland area. And since they are sending athletes only from one region of their country, calling it "Chinese Taipei" seems appropriate, and it was the practice of the past Olympics. In order to be accepted as an independent country named "Taiwan", they need to change their own constitution first and declare independence. It is not up to the Olympic committee or any other international organizations to grant it independence or give it a new name.

We have Chinese Hong Kong team and Chinese Macau team as well, they participate the Olympiad in the name of a region, not country.

First, Taiwan is not a country, so there's no country name or flag for that.

Athletes should be able to participate Olympic, team can be established as a region team. But don't regard that as politic problem. That's meaningless.

I have to say that Taiwan is a province of our country. If they use Chinese Taipei as their team name, I think it’s OK. But I will not accept it if their team name changes to only Taiwan or Taipei.

@heyimcake 😅
It's great to see the true Olympic spirit and see athletes from all parts of the world including athletes from Chinese Taipei.
Russian athletes entered the events under the ROC name, they are banned to represent Russia this year.
Refugee Olympic Team has their athletes too.
Athletes from Hong Kong, China can participate along with Chinese athletes.
I hope Macau will be officially recognised by the International Olympic Committee one day.
It’s a fair game.

Taiwanese Beijing would win far fewer medals if the IOC wasn't so corrupt.

@sunnini Okinawa does not have its own currency, military and passports, nor hatred for Japan. Taiwan is considered a country everywhere except in West Taiwan, aka Taiwanese Beijing.

@bigshot31 This is what you mean by everywhere? "The states that recognise the ROC (14 UN members and the Holy See as of 20 September 2019) regard it as the sole legitimate government of China and therefore do not recognise the PRC". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_states_wi...
By this alone Taiwan does not have de jure sovereignty, regardless or its currency, military and passport. Therefore it's not a sovereign country. And the word country is so vague that you can even call every state of USA a country.

@bigshot31 (This question specifically asks for the opinion of Chinese. Are you Chinese?)

Is it really? From your profile I deduce that you are probably from the US, and the OP is probably from Canada. Neither US nor Canada recognizes Republic of China as a separate country. This website https://www.state.gov/independent-states-in-the... lists the independent entities from the US perspective, and the government officials sometimes make statements like this: https://www.taiwannews.com.tw/en/news/4242061. If you think it is a mistake, maybe you can call the senator and congressman of your district to get it fixed first? Unless you think US is too afraid of China at this point. In the past year I saw the US going around and asking the WHO or the Olympic committee or China to accept ROC as a separate country, but AFAIK the US itself had not taken any actions (e.g, did not submit any proposal to WHO to add ROC). The same applies to Canada.

Province Taiwan has always been a part of China, and it has admitted that belongs to China. But due to the change of government leaders, their ruling party colluded with foreign to independence. It is for the encroachment of China's sovereignty, and the destruction of the relationship between the compatriots on both sides.A child in encouragement from the bad guys want to leave, do you think mother will be alone

To compromise with China(for international organizations,in many international occasions, which China participates and plays a role in),Taiwan hasn’t got the rights it should have. Taiwan has fallen victim to China's political game with other countries.

@heyimcake See those radical, hostile and aggressive words by those Chinese people above? And think about the German people under Nazi Germany. I feel the deepest sorry and sorrow, from the bottom of my heart.

If you truly want to know the relationship between mainland China and Taiwan, reading the modern history of China might give you an accurate answer.
The fact is that, you can't find a state named "Taiwan" nor "ROC(Taiwan)" in any legal laws, but only ROC(Republic of China) whose legal status was replaced by PRC according to The United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758. While Taiwan is actually a province of China, not a sovereign state.

@heyimcake As to the flag or the anthem of "Taiwan", sad to say, these were still created by Chinese, not so called "Taiwanese".
